Belgian-style, wine-infused, IPAs among new Bay Area beers this week

By Miranda Bolar · On October 17, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO – Darker bodied beers are following the colder days at Bay Area breweries. Among new releases are new IPAs, a wine-infused beer, and more Oktoberfest-inspired releases. With lots of fruity drinks available grab a drinking buddy and try something new this week.

San Francisco

Triple Voodoo Brewery – The Dogpatch brewery released a Belgian Strong Ale called Biére Du Blanc. It includes organic Sauvignon Blanc juice from a local winery. Tastes of dried mango with both tart and sweet flavors, aged since harvest season last year make this a unique blend to try.

North Bay

HenHouse Brewing Company – The Santa Rosa’s new IPA is called Tiny Tiles and has a 4.6 percent alcohol level. Their Facebook page described this brew as only having Galaxy and Mosaic hops; with smells of blueberry and “super bright lime” and tastes of pamplemousse and cantaloupe.

Lagunitas Brewing Company – Stoopid Wit is the new unfiltered brew at this location. This brewery explained on Facebook that the beer has a touch of Belgian flavors and “twangy” dry hops.

Fogbelt Brewing Company – New to the Santa Rosa brewery is the Godwood Giant Triple IPA. At 9.8 percent alcohol and 82 IBU, the beer is described as having a fruity nose with some sweetness and easy to drink.

East Bay

Fieldwork Brewing Company – The Berkeley brewery had a busy week tapping three new brews. The first is Sea Stories, Dank Sea Salt IPA. “A sturdy hull of English malts give this unique concoction a bready background with hints of toasted biscuit and hardtack,” they described on Facebook. This beer has a lot of hoppy flavor with notes of grapefruit, citrus, and tangerine.

Sour Diesel, Tart Hoppy Saison is also back on tap. This brew has a good amount of dry hops with a smell of grapefruit inspired by a 2004 trip to Amsterdam.

The third recent release is an IPA called OverRipe Northeast. “The backbone of this beer is its Vermont ale yeast which provides a perfect accompaniment of bright peach-like esters that only enhances the treasure-trove of fruit juiciness,” said on social media. With tropical white wine and Sauvignon Blanc wine grapes, this brew also has flavors of tropical fruit from the Blanc hops and grapefruit.

Outer Bay

Peter B’s Brewpub – One of two new beers on tap at this brewpub is called Peterhosen Oktoberfest. “(Made with) delicate aromas of orange, black pepper & honey; dance with a light biscuity flavor & malty finish in this medium bodied ale,” said in a Facebook post.

The second new beer is Mr. Quinn’s Harvest Ale made with fresh hops. Includes whole leaf Sorachis Ace to add a citrus taste and Big Sur black sage.
