Beer for a cause: Bay Area breweries donating to North Bay fire relief

By Sam Molmud @smolmud · On October 14, 2017

The devastation and impact of the fires in Napa and Sonoma Counties has hit the entire Bay Area hard and is on course to be one of the worst disasters in California’s history. Though so much damage has been done (and continues), Bay Area citizens and organizations have mobilized to support those displaced, hurt and in need of help during this awful disaster.

We first recommend to those looking to contribute from afar that you visit the websites of some of the relief organizations in the area, such as the Sonoma County Resilience Fund, the Napa Valley Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Mendocino County. GoFundMe has also created a California fire relief feed that can help you directly support those in need.

The mobilizing of local Bay Area businesses donating proceeds from their sales, fundraisers and relief-related events has also increased, and contributing to this movement are Bay Area breweries.

This list is in no ways comprehensive, but we wanted to highlight some local breweries you can visit that have pledged to donate a certain amount to the fire relief efforts in the North Bay. We recommend following your local favorite breweries on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for the latest updates in who is contributing to the fire relief efforts.

North Bay

Crooked Goat – The Sebastapol brewery has committed to donating a percentage of their proceeds to fire victims.

2 Tread Brewing – Tuesday, October 17, the Santa Rosa brewery will have a free pasta feed for those displaced by the fire and first responders (with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian pasta available).

San Francisco

Laughing Monk Brewing – The Bayview neighborhood brewery will be hosting an event on Sunday, October 15 at 12:30 to raise funds for those affected by the fire. The brewery will donate $2 from every beer sold.

Fort Point – The Presidio-based brewery is acting as a drop-off station for all looking to donate supplies to the North Bay. 644 Old Mason Street, San Francisco is open through Monday from 6am-8pm for these – follow Fort Point on Facebook for the latest updates about donating.

Peninsula

Blue Oak – In San Carlos, Blue Oak Brewing will begin donating $1 per beer and $2 per growler sold from Thursday, October 19 to Saturday, October 21.

Hop Dogma – The El Granada brewery on the coast will be donating 50% of all their proceeds this weekend to North Bay fire relief efforts.

East Bay

Altamont Brewing – The Livermore brewery is donating 15% of all sales, tasting room staff is donating 15% of their tips and firefighters are being given 40% off until the fires are contained. Cash donations are also being accepted in their tasting room.

Gilman Street Brewing – The Berkeley brewery created a beer to show support for the North Bay called, The Bines That Tie. 100% of all sales from that beer will be donated to Northern California fire victims.

Benoit Casper – From this weekend through the remainder of October, the Richmond-based brewery will donate 20% of all taproom sales to those affected by the North Bay fires.

Armistice Brewing – In addition to a donation jar, the Richmond brewery just tapped 707, a California golden ale, and will be sending $2 of every pint sold to victims of the North Bay fires.

East Brother Brewing – The Richmond brewery is donating 5% of total taproom sales this week to organizations aiding relief efforts up north.
