SAN FRANCISCO— Lagers and IPAs sure were a popular this week. Getting comfortable with fall, the Bay Area brew scene is thriving of off yummy seasonal ingredients like pumpkins and nutmeg.
San Francisco
Ferment Drink Repeat — Cats in Tracksuits is the new IPA release at FDR. Made with a Maris Otter malt base, their take on the American IPA has aromas of citrus, stone fruits, and herbs, and is described on their Facebook page as bitter, but not too bitter.
Local Brewing Company — Excelsior is the new Vienna Lager at this brewery. With notes of toasted malt and cherry, this beer also includes both Galena and Glacier hops
East Bay
Fieldwork Brewing Company — Sushi Beer is the new brew in this taproom. “A rice heavy grain-bill makes this Lager appear lighter and less malty on the palate combines with a pinch of specialty grain providing that trademark Rice Lager profile,” said on Facebook. This brew has flavors of tangerine juice, ganga, mango, and orange zest.
Black Diamond Brewery — This brewery’s new beer is called La Gourda, an Imperial Brown Ale, made with a huge amount of sugar pie pumpkins and acorn nut squash from Frist Generation Farms. This brew also includes flavors of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Peninsula
Hop Dogma Brewing Company— The Great American Beer Festival silver medal winner’s brew is on tap at this brewery. Roggenbier is described on Facebook as “big dense and rich rye flavor with delicate yeast aromatics come together beautifully in this beer.”
Outer Bay
New Bohemia Brewing Company — This newly tapped brew is Schwarzbier, a black lager, at 4.5 percent alcohol and an IBU of 27. Made with lemon drop hops and a light roast, a creamy finish along with flavors of bread and chocolate.
