SAN FRANCISCO — New Bay Area beers this week include quite a few IPAs and a new saison. With sweet and delicious flavors abound, you’re sure to find something to quench your thirst this week in the Bay Area.
Strike Brewing Company — Winter Camp is the newly tapped beer, which is an olde ale made with roasted barley, a blend of pale and crystal. It also includes notes of dark chocolate and black currant.
Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing — Brahma Meets Brett is the newest brew in this tap room with a 8.9 percent alcohol level and an IBU of 95. A big double IPA, the beer beer is described on Facebook as both hoppy and juicy that finishes dry.
Fieldwork Brewing Company — Nomadic IPA is one of new brews at Fieldwork. Nomadic IPA comes in at 7.5 percent alcohol and contains notes of papaya and pineapple. “Juicy and stinky, sticky but not sweet,” said on Facebook. “Nomadic IPA will unrelentingly drag your taste buds from the shores of Hawaii to the coffee shops of Amsterdam.”
The second new beer on tap at this brewery is called Orchard Street Northeast IPA. This malt has notes of peaches, watermelon rind, red grapefruit, and pink starbursts. Described on social media as a “juice bomb” with its citrus and over ripened peaches.
Drake’s Brewing Company — Jolly Rodger 2016 is the newest twist to an old tradition for this brewery. With candy and sugar malts, this brew also contains notes of baking spice, sun-dried raisins, and caramel. With a 10 percent alcohol level and an IBU of 31, this brew was made with crystal malt, special B malt, and American 2-row barley. Bottles are making their way around Bay Area retailers in time for the holidays.
Local Brewing Company — Tradewind Tropical Stout is the sweet new 6.9 percent alcohol brew at Local. This fruity beer was described on their social media as a refreshing drink with semi-sweet dark chocolate, raisin, mocha, coconut, pear, and toffee notes.
Brasserie Saint James San Francisco — This new brew, Daily Wages, is this brewery’s own twist on an already favorite Great American Beer Festival winning Belgian Saison. This 6 percent alcohol beer is made with green peppercorn, along with a few months of finishing.
Cellarmaker Brewing Company — This brewery has two new brews available this week, the first, Instant Karma. This 5.2 percent alcohol blond ale is low on the bitterness scale, with lime, pineapple, and kiwi notes. This beer also contains Australian Vic Secret and Equinox hops with an IBU of 23.
The second new brew is called Extra Sense, which is 6.7 percent alcohol and an IBU of 55. This IPA has Simcoe, Amarillo, Mosaic, and comet hops and notes of tangerine, peach, and guava.
