Updated 1/20/16: The “Secret Beer Tapping” event at Rosamunde mistakenly referred to Pliny the Younger being the secret tapping. The description has been updated to reflect the fact that it will be a Russian River tap takeover, with Pliny the Younger not being available.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, a time of togetherness and goodwill where we remember what is really important about life. I’m talking Beer Week y’all!
The blessed event comes a little early this year due to the Super Bowl coming to SF so here are our top picks for unmissable events within city limits.
Spoiler alert: Two of them involve cheese.
Shaman Series: Local Honeys (Cerveceria, January 24)
Woods is easily one of the best breweries in the Bay and their beer week events never disappoint. The shaman series includes beers inspired by local honey, herbs and flowers and promises to offer “medicinal flights”. Fans of sours should also check out this bar’s Smoothie beer event earlier in the week because if it’s anything like last year’s it’ll be a good showcase of how Woods experiments with funky flavors without being gimmicky.
East Bay Allstars Tap Takeover (Liquid Gold, January 25)
Small but mighty Liquid Gold tap room is celebrating its second beer week with a night with specialties from Fieldwork, Altamont and Faction. If you haven’t yet discovered the killer beer selection of Liquid Gold and want to try Easy Bay brews without schlepping, this event is for you. Plus LG has a bottle shop in case you want to take one for the road.
Stone’s Stinky Secrets (Mission Cheese, January 28)
This event pairs the loveliness of San Diego brewing with fancy-ass cheese so what more could you want? Mission Cheese is serving up flights that pair cheeses with Stone’s rarer brews. Even if you’re not a dairy fan this event is worth it the check out the craftsmanship of Stone if you can’t quite make it to San Diego proper.
I know what you’re thinking, another cheese event? No my friends this is the cheese event. For a modest 50 bucks you can have all the beer, cheese and bread you want at this event. The cask selections come from brewers all over the bay and pair delightfully with all the Cowgirl Creamery cheese you can stuff in your gob. It’s a slightly upscale event that is crazy fun and delicious every year, plus you get a free glass to take home.
Secret Beer Tapping (Rosamunde, January 31)
Pliny the Younger might not be around in time for SF Beer Week, but that’s not stopping Rosamunde from giving the Russian River some love. This year will be a tap takeover featuring Russian River’s favorites like Blind Pig, Damnation, Consecration and Supplication.
