EL GRANADA, Calif. — El Granada brewery, Hop Dogma, has ventured into bottling and distributing their beer, with a new series of IPAs called We Grin For Lupulin.
The ability to bottle and distribute was made possible by Hop Dogma expanding into contract brewing their batches. According to Dan Littlefield, co-owner of Hop Dogma, the brewery decided to do what Hop Dogma had always done: brew different beers all the time.
“When we jumped into contract brewing bigger batches, we had to really think about what we could pull off that would still represent the mentality and spirit of our brewing style,” said Littlefield. “So we decided to look at what we had and do what we’ve always done which is to brew different beers all the time.”
With Batch 1.0 of We Grin For Lupulin — a 6.9 percent alcohol IPA featuring Magnum, CTZ, Citra, Ella and Galaxy hops — Littlefield feels that the brewery was able to accomplish what it set out to do, creating a beer he describes as having “tremendous grapefruit, piney, and resinous qualities.”
“We didn’t filter the beer, so it is quite cloudy after being brewed with about 5 pounds per barrel of hops,” said Littlefield. “I think that this first round is a great representation of what we do and we are excited that the best is yet to come.”
Batch 1.0 of We Grin For Lupulin has already hit the shelves in San Francisco, at Handy Deli and City Beer Store, and according to Littlefield should be in local Whole Foods stores as well. The brewery has already produced Batch 2.0, which will be available in the near future.
As far as what the future holds for Hop Dogma’s bottling, Littlefield says the brewery is looking to bottle their award-winning Imperial Stout, as well as a Belgian pale ale down the line.
Hop Dogma’s beers can be found at their El Granda taproom, as well as locations throughout the Bay Area via their Find Our Beer page on their website.
