As Oakland’s beer community continues to flourish, a familiar face in the Bay Area’s brewing world opened its doors off Telegraph and 19th Streets on October 11.
The third and largest location of Woods Beer Co., Woods Bar and Brewery is the newest location of owner and brewer Jim Woods’ beer ventures in the Bay Area. Like Cerveceria de MateVeza and Woods Polk Station in San Francisco, Woods Bar and Brewery features Woods’ hallmark yerba mate-infused beers, as well as their creative takes on traditional styles.
The brewery hosts 12 beers on tap, mostly made in their three-barrel brewery above their Oakland taproom, or from the SF-based Ceverceria. Woods also has a few guest taps available featuring beers from other breweries, as well as wine. Argentinian empanadas from San Francisco’s El Porteño are also for sale in the taproom.
In addition to their yerba mate-infused beers, Woods experiments with a variety of unusual ingredients, like hibiscus, Douglas Fir tips, and tropical fruit. Their slogan on their Facebook page, “adventurous beer for curious drinkers,” fits their unique approach to brewing.
